Bass lessons in
The Hague.
Alongside drum lessons we now teach bass guitar too. One fixed lesson time a week in Studio 13 and 14, in Loosduinen, with the same approach as our drum lessons: personal, calm and without pressure to perform. And because you learn in a drum studio, from lesson one it is about what makes bass the most fun: groove, timing and playing together.
Who are bass lessons for?
Children
Physically the bass is a bigger instrument than it looks. The lesson bass in the studio is a short-scale, so it works for children's hands too; in the trial lesson we check whether this is a good moment to start.
Adults
Bass is a rewarding instrument to pick up later in life: you are soon playing along with real songs.
Drummers
Students of the drum school who want to get to know the other half of the rhythm section. Groove and timing come from both sides.
Lessons with Guus van Diemen.
Guus van Diemen is a multi-instrumentalist, producer and artist. He started on trombone at the age of nine in the VHJO youth orchestra and soon became its first trombonist. As a teenager he discovered rock and jazz, and played bass and sang in several progressive bands from The Hague. As a producer and bassist he has worked with well-known names from the Hague scene.
His lessons are all about doing. Making music is about having fun and getting better by playing. He also values a broad grasp of music theory, and the story behind the music: why a song works the way it does.

Nothing to bring along.
Bass lessons take place in Studio 13 and 14. Everything you need for the lesson is already there; if you have your own bass, feel free to bring it.

Frequently asked questions about bass lessons.
From what age can my child take bass lessons?
Usually from around age 8, depending on hand size and concentration. In the free trial lesson we check together whether the bass already fits and whether this is a good moment to start. You don't need to bring anything: the lesson bass in the studio is a short-scale (Squier Bronco), which suits children's hands much better than a full-size bass.
Do I need my own bass guitar?
Not for the lesson. A short-scale Squier Bronco is ready in Studio 13 and 14 with a dedicated Fender bass amp and a tuner. That bass is for use during the lesson and stays in the studio; to practise at home you need your own bass. The teacher will help you choose one, and a second-hand bass is often perfectly fine.
What do bass lessons cost?
Exactly the same as drum lessons: a fixed monthly fee for weekly or bi-weekly lessons of 30, 45 or 60 minutes. VAT-free under 21. The first lesson is a free 30-minute trial. The full price list is on the pricing page.
When are bass lessons?
In Studio 13 and 14 at HPC Loosduinen. Bass is a small branch next to our drum lessons, so places are limited. When booking the trial lesson you see straight away which times are still free.
Can I combine bass with drum lessons?
Yes. Bass and drums together form the rhythm section, and drummers who add bass quickly learn to listen to groove and timing in a new way. Mention it at the trial lesson and we will see what fits.
